Name: Maddy Dall

Instructions: You are to interview two people and record their responses on this form. You should state their name and their comments to your solution to the identified problem.

VI. I interviewed two individuals to see what their response would be to my (our) plan. Their responses are as follows.

Dawn Dall:
Q: What do you know about genetically modified (GM) foods?
A: Not much, except for the fact that the chemicals in them can be potentially dangerous.

Q: Knowing that and given the information that companies that produce GM foods do not have to put labeling on their products that identify them as artificially modified, what are your feelings?
A: I think that labeling should be required. As a consumer, I think that that's lying to the customer. People have a right to know what they're eating.

Q: Our bill that we are proposing states that GM food companies should be required to put labels and ingredient lists on products. Would you be for or against this bill? Why or why not?
A: I would be for it, because people should know what's in their food so that they can make a more informed decision about what they eat and buy.

Q: As a consumer, do you feel your right to information has been violated?
A: Yes, a little, because information is being with held from us, and the information could potentiall save us from harmful ingredients in food.

I interviewed a biology teacher as well, however, she did not respond to the email as of this moment.

VII. My (our) answer, based on our research, to their objections and concerns are

Some concerns expressed by the interviewee were that, should there be required labeling for GM foods, would the sales of GM foods go down to the point where they would no longer be produced? The problem with this lies in the fact that GM foods are much more inexpensive than organic foods, so they can be available to the less fortunate, or those who cannot afford organic. The answer to this problem would be that, even if labeling were to be put on GM foods, it would not stop people from buying them, just help them make a more informed decision about what they are eating. Those who cannot afford organic foods are not going to suddenly stop buying GM foods, since they cannot afford the alternative. Therefore, GM foods will still be available.
